Ways To Improve Sales Through Your Website

Anyone who has been marketing online knows that the lifeblood of a business is the traffic of a site. More visitors equal more sales. However, here are some ways that you can tweak your sites with to improve sales without the need to get more visitors.

The first method is to weave in your personal touch in your sales message. Nobody wants to be sold to by a total stranger, but many people will buy what their close friends recommend to them. If you can convince your audience that you are a personal friend who has their best interest at heart, they will be convinced to buy your products. Remember to speak to an individual in your salesletter, not to your whole audience.

The second method is to publish testimonials and comments from your customers. A good idea would be to publish both good and bad comments; that way prospects will be really convinced that these testimonials are real. When prospects see testimonials on your website, they will have the confidence to buy from you because human beings follow the herd mentality; when others have bought and proven it authentic, they will jump on the bandwagon and buy too.

Use visual representations for the problems and solutions that your product offers. Not everyone will read your text copy from the head to the tail, but most people will pay attention to images on your website.

Offer quality bonuses to accompany the product. When you offer bonuses that complement your product, your prospects will feel it's a very good deal and it would be stupid to miss it. Be sure to state the monetary value of your bonuses so that people will be even more compelled to grab your good bargain.

Lastly, ask for the sale! Many people entice their prospects with the benefits of their product, sell to them with stories of how it has solved many problems, even offered killer bonuses but forget to ask for the sale. Give a clear instruction on how to buy your product (e.g. "click the button to buy now!").

The Importance of A Good Design

Your website is the hub of your online business; it is the virtual representation of your company whether your company exists physically or not. When you are doing business online, people cannot see you physically like how they could if they were dealing with an offline company. Hence, people do judge you by your covers. This is where a good design comes in.

Imagine if you are running an offline company. Would you allow your salespersons to be dressed in shabby or casual clothes when they are dealing with your customers? By making your staff wear professionally, you are telling your customers that you do care about quality. This works simply because first impressions matter.

Similarly, the same case is with your website. If your website is put together shabbily and looks like a 5 minute "quick fix", you are literally shouting to your visitors that you are not professional and you do not care for quality.

On the opposite, if you have a totally professional looking website layout, you are giving your visitors the perception that you have given meticulous attention to every detail and you care about professionalism. You are organised, focused and you really mean business.

On the other hand, you should also have anything related to your company well designed. From business cards to letterheads to promotional brochures, every little bit matters. This is because as you grow your business, these items become the face of your business. Once again, think of the "salesperson dressed shabbily" anology, and you will get my point.

Search Engine Friendly Pages

There is no point in building a website unless there are visitors coming in. A major source of traffic for most sites on the Internet is search engines like Google, Yahoo!, MSN, Altavista and so on. Hence, by designing a search engine friendly site, you will be able to rank easily in search engines and obtain more visitors.

Major search engines use programs called crawlers or robots to index websites to list on their search result pages. They follow links to a page, reads the content of the page and record it in their own database, pulling up the listing as people search for it.

If you want to make your site indexed easily, you should avoid using frames on your website. Frames will only confuse search engine robots and they might even abandon your site because of that. Moreover, frames make it difficult for users to bookmark a specific page on your site without using long, complicated scripts.

Do not present important information in Flash movies or in images. Search engine robots can only read text on your source code so if you present important words in Flash movies and images rather than textual form, your search engine ranking will be affected dramatically.

Use meta tags accordingly on each and every page of your site so that search engine robots know at first glance what that particular page is about and whether or not to index it. By using meta tags, you are making the search engine robot's job easier so they will crawl and index your site more frequently.

Stop using wrong HTML tags like <font> to style your page. Use CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) instead because they are more effective and efficient. By using CSS, you can eliminate redundant HTML tags and make your pages much lighter and faster to load.

Ebook on Computer Programming : Linux Web Solution php mySql Apache.pdf

Abstract
Of all the web servers on the market today, Apache is most popular because it supplies basic web server functionality right out of the box. Yet, many customers want a more sophisticated website, one with SQL database functionality, search capabilities, and server-side scripting. The complexity and interdependencies of these packages make it difficult for independent software vendors, solution developers, and website administrators to put together a solution. Customizing the Apache server with additional functionality can be complex on the Linux platform. The solutions for extending functionality are just not obvious. This technical guide demonstrates how to integrate PHP, MySQL, and ht://Dig with the Apache server. Independent software vendors, solution developers, programmers, and website administrators can use this guide to plan and deploy advanced Apache web servers on the Linux platform.

This document describes how to install, configure, and deploy a sophisticated Apache website on the Linux operating system. Such a website includes the powerful, server-side scripting language, PHP3, access to the full-featured SQL database, MySQL and the ht://Dig search engine. All of the software packages described in this document are open source applications. What makes open source software so attractive? First of all, it is free. Secondly, you get copies of the software source code, which frees you to control the software to meet your short-term and long-term requirements. The key points of open source software restrictions are that no one:

  • Distributes the product without the source code (or, a list of differences between the modified version and the original) and a copy of all related documentation
  • Charges for the software itself (only for its distribution)
  • Can impose restriction on its distribution

Reducing Load Time Through Image Optimization

Even though more and more Internet users switch to broadband every year, a large portion of the web's population is still running on good old dialup connections. It is therefore unwise to count them out of the equation when you're designing your website, and a very major consideration we have to make for dialup users is the loading time of your website.

Generally, all the text on your website will be loaded in a very short time even on a dialup connection. The culprit of slow-loading sites is mainly large images on your website, and it is very important to strike a delicate balance between using just enough images to attract your users and not to bog down the overall loading time of your site.

You should also go to a greater length and optimize every image on your site to make sure it loads in the least time possible. What I really mean is to use image editing software to remove unnecessary information on your images, and thereby effectively reducing the file size of your image without affecting its appearance.

If you own Photoshop, it will be obvious to you that when you save an image as a JPEG file, a dialog box appears and lets you choose the "quality" of the JPEG image -- normally a setting of 8 to 10 is good enough as it will preserve the quality of your image while saving it at a small file size. If you do not have Photoshop, there are many free image compressors online that you can download and use to reduce your image's file size.

On the other hand, you can opt to save your images in PNG format to get the best quality at the least file size. You can also save your images in GIF format -- the image editing software clips away all the color information not used in your image, hence giving you the smallest file size possible. However, saving in GIF format will often compromise the appearance of your image, so make your choice wisely!

Ebook Computer Programming in Java: Java Network Programming 2ed.pdf

This book begins with three chapters that outline how networks and network programs work. Chapter 1, is a gentle introduction to network programming in Java and the applications that it makes possible. All readers should find something of interest in this chapter. It explores some of the unique programs that become feasible when networking is combined with Java. Chapter 2, and Chapter 3, explain in detail what a programmer needs to know about how the Internet and the Web work. Chapter 2 describes the protocols that underlie the Internet, such as TCP/IP and UDP/IP. Chapter 3 describes the standards that underlie the Web such, as HTTP, HTML, and CGI. If you've done a lot of network programming in other languages on other platforms, you may be able to skip these two chapters.

The next two chapters throw some light on two parts of Java that are critical to almost all network programs but are often misunderstood and misused: I/O and threading. Chapter 4 explores Java's unique way of handling input and output. Understanding how Java handles I/O in the general case is a prerequisite for understanding the special case of how Java handles network I/O. Chapter 5 explores multithreading and synchronization, with a special emphasis on how they can be used for asynchronous I/O and network servers. Experienced Java programmers may be able to skim or skip these two chapters. However, Chapter 6, is essential reading for everyone. It shows how Java programs interact with the Domain Name System through the InetAddress class, the one class that's needed by essentially all network programs. Once you've finished this chapter, it's possible to jump around in the book as your interests and needs dictate. There are, however, some interdependencies between specific chapters.

Ebook Computer Programming : ASP.Net Bible.pdf

Introduction of the Microsoft .NET platform has begun a new era in the field of application development that will drive the next-generation Internet. ASP.NET, a part of the Microsoft .NET platform, is a revolutionary programming framework that enables the rapid development of enterprise-class Web applications. It provides the easiest and most scalable way to develop, deploy, and run Web applications that can target any browser or device. In fact, these features are only a few of several that make ASP.NET developers' first choice for creating Web applications.

ASP.NET makes application development much easier than it was with classic ASP, and hence it has dramatically improved developers' productivity. ASP.NET enables you to provide richer functionality to your Web applications by writing the least amount of code. The best part is that ASP.NET enables you to select any of the available .NET programming languages. So, unlike classic ASP, in which you had to depend on interpreted VBScript and JScript languages, ASP.NET provides a wide choice of programming languages.

In addition to the usual Web applications, ASP.NET allows you to create other types, which enables you to extend your applications' reach to new customers and business partners. For example, XML Web services enable sharing of data across the Internet regardless of the operating system and the programming language — this certainly widens the reach of your applications. Also, ASP.NET provides you with mobile controls that enable your applications to target a large number of mobile Web devices. Deploying server applications has always been a pain for developers. With ASP.NET, however, developers do not need to worry on this front at all, because ASP.NET has dramatically simplified the deployment process. Deploying a Web application simply requires you to copy it to the Web server.

Photography tutorial and ebook free

Digital cameras are only a few years old and are just now beginning to make serious inroads into photography. They have yet to be fully accepted by some photographers. However, despite some current limitations, digital cameras are the wave of the future and it's only a matter of time before most photographs are taken with these kinds of cameras rather than traditional film-based cameras.
Photographers who don't accept digital cameras generally base their arguments on the fact that the images are not as good as film-based cameras. Yet these same photographers most likely use 35 mm SLR cameras that are not as good as 8 x 10 view cameras. And if they do use 8 x 10 cameras, they don't use the even better mammoth glass plate view cameras used by Jackson and Muybridge after the Civil War. If they really wanted quality, they'd be using mules to carry their equipment. So much for their argument being based on the quality of the image.

Pros and Cons of Flash-based Sites

Flash-based sites have been a craze since the past few years, and as Macromedia compiles more and more great features into Flash, we can only predict there will be more and more flash sites around the Internet. However, Flash based sites have been disputed to be bloated and unnecessary. Where exactly do we draw the line? Here's a simple breakdown.

The good:

  • Interactivity
Flash's Actionscript opens up a vast field of possibilities. Programmers and designers have used Flash to create interactive features ranging from very lively feedback forms to attractive Flash-based games. This whole new level of interactivity will always leave visitors coming back for more.
  • A standardized site
With Flash, you do not have to worry about cross-browser compatibility. No more woes over how a certain css code displays differently in Internet Explorer, Firefox and Opera. When you position your site elements in Flash, they will always appear as they are as long as the user has Flash Player installed.
  • Better expression through animation
In Flash, one can make use of its animating features to convey a message in a much more efficient and effective way. Flash is a lightweight option for animation because it is vector based (and hence smaller file sizes) as opposed to real "movie files" that are raster based and hence much larger in size.

The bad and the ugly:

  • The Flash player
People have to download the Flash player in advance before they can view Flash movies, so by using Flash your visitor range will decrease considerably because not everyone will be willing to download the Flash player just to view your site. You'll also have to put in additional work in redirecting the user to the Flash download page if he or she doesn't have the player installed.
  • Site optimization
If your content was presented in Flash, most search engines wouldn't be able to index your content. Hence, you will not be able to rank well in search engines and there will be less traffic heading to your site.
  • Loading time
Users have to wait longer than usual to load Flash content compared to regular text and images, and some visitors might just lose their patience and click the Back button. The longer your Flash takes to load, the more you risk losing visitors.

The best way to go is to use Flash only when you absolutely need the interactivity and motion that comes with it. Otherwise, use a mixture of Flash and HTML or use pure text if your site is purely to present simple textual and graphical information.

Macromedia Flash MX Advanced.pdf

Why “MX”? As its name suggests, Flash MX represents a generational, rather
than an incremental, upgrade from Flash 5. Flash MX is now part of a larger
family of MX products from Macromedia that can work together to help you
develop and deliver rich, dynamic content. You can still use Flash MX by itself,
but its potential for server- side integration is greatly expanded by being part of
a suite of Web development tools.
Keep in mind that, while the name of the authoring application is Flash MX, the
Web browser plug-in that plays Flash MX media is called the Flash 6 Player.
Whether you’re a beginner or an advanced user, or a designer or a
programmer, a number of new features in Flash MX will appeal to you. The
following are just a few that make Flash MX even more powerful, flexible, and
easy to use.

Hacker Handbook

Hacking is not a new pursuit. It started in the early 1960s when the first "serious" time-share computers began to appear at university sites. Very early on, 'unofficial' areas of the memory started to appear, first as mere notice boards and scratch pads for private programming experiments, then, as locations for games. (Where, and how do you think the early Space Invaders, Lunar Landers and Adventure Games were created?) Perhaps tech-hacking-- the mischievous manipulation of technology--goes back even further. One of the old favourites of US campus life was to rewire the control panels of elevators (lifts) in high-rise buildings, so that a request for the third floor resulted in the occupants being whizzed to the twenty-third.
Towards the end of the 60s, when the first experimental networks arrived on the scene (particularly when the legendary ARPAnet--Advanced Research Projects Agency network-- opened up), the computer hackers skipped out of their own local computers, along the packet-switched high grade communications lines, and into the other machines on the net. But all these hackers were privileged individuals. They were at a university or research resource, and they were able to borrow terminals to work with. What has changed now, of course, is the wide availability of home computers and the modems to go with them, the growth of public-access networking of computers, and the enormous quantity and variety of computers that can be accessed.
Hackers vary considerably in their native computer skills; a basic knowledge of how data is held on computers and can be transferred from one to another is essential. Determination, alertness, opportunism, the ability to analyse and synthesise, the collection of relevant helpful data and luck--the pre-requisites of any intelligence officer--are all equally important. If you can write quick effective programs in either a high level language or machine code, well, it helps. A knowledge of on-line query procedures is helpful, and the ability to work in one or more popular mainframe and mini operating systems could put you in the big league.
The materials and information you need to hack are all around you--only they are seldom marked as such. Remember that a large proportion of what is passed off as 'secret intelligence' is openly available, if only you know where to look and how to appreciate what you find. At one time or another, hacking will test everything you know about computers and communications. You will discover your abilities increase in fits and starts, and you must be prepared for long periods when nothing new appears to happen.
Popular films and tv series have built up a mythology of what hackers can do and with what degree of ease. My personal delight in such Dream Factory output is in compiling a list of all the mistakes in each episode. Anyone who has ever tried to move a graphics game from one micro to an almost-similar competitor will already know that the chances of getting a home micro to display the North Atlantic Strategic Situation as it would be viewed from the President's Command Post would be slim even if appropriate telephone numbers and passwords were available. Less immediately obvious is the fact that most home micros talk to the outside world through limited but convenient asynchronous protocols, effectively denying direct access to the mainframe products of the world's undisputed leading computer manufacturer, which favours synchronous protocols. And home micro displays are memory-mapped, not vector-traced... Nevertheless, it is astonishingly easy to get remarkable results. And thanks to the protocol transformation facilities of PADs in PSS networks (of which much more later), you can get into large IBM devices.... The cheapest hacking kit I have ever used consisted of a ZX81, 16K RAMpack, a clever firmware accessory and an acoustic coupler. Total cost, just over ú100. The ZX81's touch-membrane keyboard was one liability; another was the uncertainty of the various connectors. Much of the cleverness of the firmware was devoted to overcoming the native drawbacks of the ZX81's inner configuration--the fact that it didn't readily send and receive characters in the industry-standard ASCII code, and that the output port was designed more for instant access to the Z80's main logic rather than to use industry-standard serial port protocols and to rectify the limited screen display. Yet this kit was capable of adjusting to most bulletin boards; could get into most dial-up 300/300 asynchronous ports, re-configuring for word-length and parity if needed; could have accessed a PSS PAD and hence got into a huge range of computers not normally available to micro-owners; and, with another modem, could have got into viewdata services. You could print out pages on the ZX 'tin-foil' printer. The disadvantages of this kit were all in convenience, not in facilities. Chapter 3 describes the sort of kit most hackers use. It is even possible to hack with no equipment at all. All major banks now have a network of 'hole in the wall' cash machines-- ATMs or Automatic Telling Machines, as they are officially

Free ebook Network and Networking Programming

Network and Networking Programming free ebook is uploaded at http://www.free-itebooks.com
Below is the excerpt of free programming ebook about network and network programming

The Windows Sockets Application Programming Interface (WinSock API)

The Windows Sockets Application Programming Interface (WinSock API) is a library
of functions that implements the socket interface as popularized by the Berkeley Software
Distribution of UNIX. WinSock augments the Berkeley socket implementation
by adding Windows-specific extensions to support the message-driven nature of the
Windows operating system.

WinSock version 1.1 is bound to the TCP/IP protocol suite. Although future versions
of WinSock are expected to support Novell’s IPX/SPX, Apple’s Appletalk, and other
popular network protocols, this book concentrates on the socket interface to the TCP/
IP protocol stack.

The WinSock specification allows TCP/IP stack vendors to provide a consistent interface
to their stacks so that application developers can write an application to the WinSock
specification and have that application run on any vendor’s WinSock-compatible TCP/
IP protocol stack. This is contrast to the days before the WinSock standard when software
developers had to link their applications with libraries specific to each TCP/IP
vendor’s implementation. This limited the number of stacks that most applications ran
on because of the difficulty in maintaining an application that used several different
implementations of Berkeley sockets. WinSock has removed that barrier. Application
programmers write to the WinSock API and link their applications with the
WINSOCK.LIB import library (or WSOCK32.LIB in the case of Win32). The application
can then be installed on a computer that has a WinSock TCP/IP stack, from any
number of vendors, and dynamically link to the WINSOCK.DLL (or WSOCK32.DLL)
provided by the vendor. Figure 3.1 is a block diagram of WSOCK32.DLL interaction
in a 32-bit program on Windows NT. Although the actual WINSOCK.DLL is specific
to each TCP/IP stack vendor, the interface into that dynamic link library remains consistent,
hence any program linked with the WinSock import library should work. More on Newbie Webmaster
